Three Lakes Lay Academy provides a means for Christian adults to gain a deeper understanding of their faith through in-depth study. Three Lakes Lay Academy is a cooperative ministry of the Presbyterian (USA) and Lutheran (ELCA) churches of the Eastern Upper Peninsula and Northern Lower Michigan. Courses are usually team taught by Lutheran and Presbyterian volunteer instructors. Canadian Christians often attend these classes.
Courses are held on Thursday evenings from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church, St. Ignace, Michigan. Format is a class, then a fellowship dinner and worship and another class. Annual Retreats are held in the spring at other announced locations.
Classes are $10 per course plus the cost of books. Free will offerings are received to cover meal expenses.
People seeking further licensure as lay ministers/pastors are encouraged to contact their local judicatory. The Northern Great Lakes Synod (ELCA) and the Mackinac Presbytery recognize Three Lakes Lay Academy as a teaching center for lay mission and ministry.
The academy always seeks Lutheran and Presbyterian clergy and lay leaders to teach the various courses.
